IP cameras and NVR (Network Video Recorder) systems are getting increasingly popular at homes and businesses. These cameras offer clearer picture quality, have reduced cabling needs, and enable remote viewing. But while purchasing NVR IP camera is now easier as most top brands now provide them online, a large number of people struggle when it comes to connecting the IP camera to the NVR.
If you are clueless about how to connect them, here are the steps that you need to follow-
- Starting the Setup
To begin with the setup, you will first need an NVR system, IP camera, laptop or PC, and PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch which comes with the IP camera. Start with connecting the PoE switch to the router. For a successful connection, you need to make sure that the router, PC/laptop, IP camera, and PoE are all connected to the same LAN or Wi-Fi connection.
- Configuring the NVR
Once all the components of the surveillance system are connected to the same network, open the settings panel of the NVR. Look for Camera Settings and select it.Most of the latest NVR systems are able to detect the new IP cameras connected to the network automatically. If your NVR does not come with this feature, go to the Camera Settings option and select Manual Configuration.
- Adding a New Camera
You will now be required to add the new NVR camera to the surveillance system manually. You will get the brochures
and how to install guide with the camera. Check these documents, and you will find details such as the IP address, model name, user name, password, and other relevant information about the camera. To add a new camera to the network, you will be required to enter these details in the Manual Configuration option. If you have more than one camera to install, you will have to add the cameras individually.
- Save the Changes
Once you have added a camera, click on Save to apply for the changes. Follow Step 3 again if you have more cameras to install. Do not forget to click on Save after adding details of each camera.
Now, exit the settings menu, and if everything is alright, your IP camera should now be connected to the NVR system.
- Viewing Camera Feed on Laptop/PC
Once the camera is connected to the NVR, you should be able to view the security footage from the camera. For this, you will have to open Internet Explorer or any other internet browser and enter the IP address of the camera in the address bar.You will now be asked to enter your Username and Password. Click on the Login button after entering your credentials, and you should now be able to view the camera on your local network.

Prefer Professional Installation
As you can see, connecting IP cameras to the NVR system is not the easiest of things to do, especially if you are not tech savvy. As a result, it is better to purchase the camera and NVR from a reputed brand and preferably from their official website.
Most of the top companies do offer professional installation services too to ensure complete convenience to the customers. Prefer such brands if you do not want to get into the installation process.
